Ottawa, 13 March 2014 – The Canadian Judicial Council has today announced the appointment of new members to the Inquiry Committee regarding Associate Chief Justice Lori Douglas. The Chairperson of the Judicial Conduct Committee has designated the Honourable François Rolland, Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec, to serve as Chairperson and the Honourable Austin Cullen, Associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia as a member of the Inquiry Committee. Pursuant to his authority under the Judges Act, the Minister of Justice has designated Ms Christa Brothers Q.C., to also serve on the Inquiry Committee.

These appointments follow the resignation of the previous members of the Committee, for reasons announced in November 2013.

The Inquiry Committee will decide on next steps in this matter. Any decision on its proceedings will be communicated on the Council's website.

After completing its work, the Inquiry Committee is expected to report its findings to Council, which must then make a recommendation to the Minister of Justice about whether or not the judge should remain in office.
