Update about the Inquiry Committee Regarding Associate Chief Justice Lori Douglas

Ottawa, 27 August 2012 – The Independent Counsel appointed to present the case to the Inquiry Committee in the matter of Associate Chief Justice Douglas, Mr Guy Pratte, has tendered his resignation as Independent Counsel, effective immediately. The Council has accepted his resignation.

A new Independent Counsel will be appointed as soon as possible, to ensure that the review of allegations against the judge can proceed in accordance with the provisions of the Judges Act and with Council's By-laws in a fair and expeditious manner, in keeping with the public interest.
