Updated Information About the Inquiry Committee in the Douglas ACJ matter

Ottawa, 14 June 2012 –The Inquiry Committee constituted to review the conduct of Associate Chief Justice Lori Douglas has made public the Notice of Allegations in this case. This notice was prepared by the Independent Counsel in this case, in keeping with subsection 5(2) of Council's bylaws. The Notice is available on Council's website. At its initial hearing of 19 May 2012, the Committee directed that counsel for the judge be provided with an opportunity to file a Response to these allegations. This response has also been posted on Council's website.

None of the information contained in the Notice of Allegations or the Response has been proven before the Committee. It is for the Inquiry Committee to make determinations of fact based on the evidence presented.

The Inquiry Committee has confirmed the schedule for the recommencement of its public hearings on 25, 26 and 27 June, 2012 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The hearings will be held at the Federal Court in Winnipeg, 363 Broadway Street, 4th Floor, courtroom #1. Proceedings of the Committee are open to members of the public and are expected to begin at 10 am and end at 4 pm each day.

Once the Inquiry Committee has made decisions about other information relating to the proceedings, it will be made available on the Council's website.
